Hugging Dogs From Viral Photo Inside Animal Shelter Adopted By Best Friends

One photo of two shelter dogs hugging just before they were to be put to sleep actually saved their lives.

The dogs, Kala and Keira, have now been adopted by two Atlanta women, Wendy and Pam, who are best friends.

Wendy had recently lost her two elderly dogs when she saw the dogs’ heartbreaking story. After chatting with her roommate Pam, everything fell together and they found out the dogs were still available.

The original post went viral in June, after Angels Among Us Pet Rescue posted the touching photo on Facebook. The post said:

“I’m Kala. This is Keira. We’re so scared in here. The people working in the shelters see how scared we are but just told each other that today is our deadline… If no one saves us, someone will take her away from me. I’ll see her as she goes down the hallway. She won’t come back and I’ll cry. They’ll come for me next and I won’t be as brave. We’ve comforted each other while we were here. She gave me hope when I had none. Now it’s over. Unless…”

Thankfully, the two pups have found their forever home and are still inseparable!

The dogs were adopted by a foster family until they could be placed in a forever home.

Kala, an 11-month-old hound mix, and Keira, a 15-month-old boxer mix, have finally found their permanent home.
